Remotes

Remotes are devices that control playback on MiniDisc devices. They were most commonly used as an inline connection from a portable MD device to headphones, allowing the remote to be clipped to a shirt, belt loop, or bag strap while the device itself was stored in a bag or pocket. Other remotes were used to control car playback or title discs. Remotes are often at least partially compatible within the same brand.

The list below is not complete. Submit a new remote page if you know of a remote model we do not list.

Most Sony devices are compatible in some way with every device with a proper port. Not all the features may be usable, but playback usually works. There seems to be no real full compatibility chart for remotes. Without having every device on hand to test, the best we can do is make guesses based on when they were released.

L - LCD display

E - backlit (electroluminescent) display

K - kanji (full-width Japanese characters) support

These may not be universal, and remotes bundled with (earlier?) devices were less likely to follow this convention.
