Blue Monday – New Order, Bought at 17 1983 One of my favourite records no reason other than and an important record in my life.
Nasty - Janet Jackson, The first album I purchased on leaving home 1986 and getting a new apt was Janet Jackson control song picked from that album
Crazy (For Me) – Freddie Jackson. Autum 1988 I bought the album “Don’t Let Love Slip Away” which contained this song at the Railway Station the day I travelled to Start Basic Training (In The USA Known as Boot Camp) in the REME - British Army.
Stop! – Erasure, I First Heard this song on joining holding platoon on completing basic army training and was waiting to be posted to trade school. January 1989.
Personal Jesus – Depeche Mode, on completion of my Electronic Engineer training for the army I bought the Depeche mode album – Violator in Spring 1990.
Finaly - CeCe Peniston, Winter 1991 I was posted to Northern Ireland Electronic Workshop for a 6-month emergency tour and this was an album I obtained whilst on that tour.
Destination Unknown – The Commitments, on above tour of Northern the film The commitments was released and the soundtrack for the film could be heard around the barracks during that time winter 1991
Regret – New Order, Summer 1993 Left Army and enrolled at Manchester University to Study Electronic Engineering master’s degree. I borrowed the album containing this song and copied it to DAT tape during first Years fresher’s week at university.
Parklife – Blur, Soundtrack to university was mainly brit pop so many to choose but this is one of my favourites from 1994
Saturn 5 – Inspiral Carpets, song is from 1994, but this one reminds me most of 1997 have finished universally and now working for Nortel Networks and living in Great Dunmow Essex complaints from neighbours singing this in a drunken sing song with friends. Walls were 3 foot thick, but neighbours still heard the howling.
Bitter Sweat Symphony – The Verve, Because of the amazing home coming concert Haigh Hall Wigan I always remember it in 1998 This and FIFA Soccer on the PS1
Arriving Somewhere But Not Here – Porcupine Tree, Didn’t really collect any music for years until I heard this band in the 2010’s. This is one of my favourites and want it in my funeral.
Collapse The Light Into Earth – Porcupine Tree, Another song for the funeral because I think its stunningly beautiful and emotional. Even more haunting knowing it was written in the aftermath of 9/11
